- ice build up under windshield wiper motor. Find a way to drain the water out
- leak through passenger door into passenger footwell due to water coming in through door panel. Blocked drain holes in door maybe?
- still a minor leak into trunk. running down the sides, across the plastic at the back and into the spare tire well.
Maintenance (reverse order)
April 10, 2009 - Car wouldn't start after work. Towed to Midas Welland. Attempted to replace distributor with one from the wreckers, but no success. Swapped the wiring into a brand new distributor Midas found for me. No success. Midas offered to take the work "off the books" for a totally reduced rate while they diagnose the wiring.March 15, 2009 - Passed E-test after several hours of tweaking. Timing belt was reset properly on both intake and exhaust cams.
September 30, 2008 - 238,745km - Installed NEW Winter tires taken off Sam's old Golf - 185/65/14 - Gislaved Nordfrost3
May 2008 - 237,825km - JDM Automotive - replaced hanger bearing on driveshaft and new seals in rear end
April 11, 2008 - 234,720km - Advanced intake and exhaust cams by one tooth to offset crank keyway not being in exact proper spot. Distributer is no longer clocked for proper 12deg timing. Took for 65km trip down the highway. No hesitation and obviously more power at stock boost levels.
February 21, 2008 - 233,000km - spark plugs and rebuilt distributor to address ongoing hesitation problem. Didn't work.
October 22, 2007 - 225,989km - Loosened BOV and corrected potential vacuum leak to charcoal canister. 300km without any hesitation at all, and vastly improved acceleration.
October 16, 2007 - 225,495km - JDM Automotive - replaced left rear wheel bearings inner & outer, and seals. Eliminated noise that thought was rear end failure.
October 15, 2007 - 225,468km - Swapped on winter tires - Gislaved NordFrost3.
August 2007 - 222,650km - Passed Emissions! Barely. But passed.
May 20, 2007 - 222,600km - Failed Emissions test for a third time. Parked, and insurance taken off.
April 12, 2007 - 222,500km - Failed Emissions test again, put in garage with battery disconnected, probably long term. So close to passing. Possibly by pulling timing and adjusting TPS to more lean the test can be passed. Maybe I'll try again later in the spring. For now, failure is my reason to begin the bottom end rebuild.

March 2, 2007 - 220,100km - Brian's shop - done as part of head swap

- Gaskets: Head, EM, IM, Valve Cover, Thermostat, Water Pump, EM->Turbo
- Replaced Exhaust manifold with corrected/welded manifold
- Replaced both radiator top mounts
December 12, 2006 - 217,101km - Replaced alternator again, with Reich Racing 105A version.
November 30, 2006 - 216,792km - Blew one headlight, one dash light, and one fog light. Suspect voltage spikes from bad voltage regulator in replacement alternator.
November 26, 2006 - 216,700km - Replaced alternator with OE from wrecker's. 120 day warranty. 3 hours labour to install. No output from old one at all.
November 18, 2006 - 216,615km - Zoro Discount Muffler:
- Replaced front resonator with a minimal "S" to clear the floorboards when hit with water, mud, snow, slush etc. Used to be major vibration when pipe moved sideways.
- Replaced MELTED ceramic core catalytic converter with steel core to handle the heat better. Noticable improvement in performance at higher rpms.
October 14, 2006 - 212,900km - swapped on winter wheels
October 8, 2006 - 212,600km - replaced plugs again. fouled with oil
September 30, 2006 - 211,400km - Zoro Discount Muffler: replaced muffler with quieter one, and added chambered resonator. MUCH quieter on the highway. Well worth the slight drop in performance. Also had the exhaust moved sideways at the front due to vibration against the floorboards when it got hit with water, ice, slush, mud, etc.
August 13, 2006 - 206,002km - Compression test. 120/90/90/120. Stock spec is 156, "minumum" is 109. Might rebuild spare motor to stock spec sooner rather than later...
August 5, 2006 - 204,750km - Changed vacuum source for vacuum advance to distributor - realized that original vac source was plugged on the intake manifold. Works properly now - expect to see gain in gas mileage, and there is a noticable improvement in performance.
July 29, 2006 - 204,102km - Rebuilt distributor again with replacement vacuum advance diaphram from dist from spare motor
July 15, 2006 - 202,694km - Replaced spark plugs with one step colder NGK (Bosch Platinum was in there)
June 5, 2006 - 198,600km - Replaced superwhite headlight bulbs with Neon Yellow
May 27, 2006 - 198,300km - Rebuilt Distributor with new springs. Click here to see a how-to.
May 23, 2006 - 198,000km - Replaced O2 sensor.
April 30, 2006 - 196,000km - Copping Mazda - Replace fuel filler hose and 1 side of brake hydraulic line to rear brakes
April 2006 - Seneca Auto Body - Hatch rust fixed, lower spoiler removed, upper spoiler installed - leak fixed into trunk, and most of leak fixed into driver's footwell.

- Car quit on the way to work. Towed to Copping Mazda. They found "no power to PCM". Replaced corroded wire going to PCM.
- Heater core replaced, thermostat replaced with genuine Mazda dual temp thermostat. Heater hoses replaced, and heater box flapper doors refoamed and adjusted.

Jan 2006 - Zoro Discount Muffler - replaced torn exhaust hanger
Jan 2006 - Replaced passenger side headlight - was cracked and filled, and had holes in 2 places.
Dec 2005 - 186,102km - Installed Optima Blue Top (Marine)
Dec 2005 - 186,006km - Zoro Discount Muffler:
- Washers welded to end of exhaust hangers to prevent exhaust from slipping off again
- Center driveshaft bearing reattached. One side was holding on by 2 threads
- Thermostat replaced (180 degree). I twisted off upper bolt while trying to replace it - had the dealership replace it to ensure no further damage.
- Radiator cap replaced
- e-brake cables replaced
- Left Front and Right Rear wheel bearing replaced
- Oil + Filter - Synthetic
- Installed remaining two e-brake cables. Passenger side was aftermarket cable and hangs too low
Oct 2005 - Copping Mazda
- Replace first part of E-brake cable assembly
- Pre-order 2 wheel bearings and 2 remaining e-brake cables
- New Tires - Gislaved Nordfrost3, 175/65R14
Sep 2005 - 175,689km - Krown Lakeshore
- Fix leaking windshield - Krown removed the windshield, then sent out the car for body work to sandblast around the windshield, weld in new metal at the windshield bottom, fill, prime, and paint (Village Auto Collision). Krown reinstalled the windshield.
